If you are planning to stay overnight at a residence other than your own, there are some precautions you can take to reduce the possibility of bed bug infestation. If for instance you have to stay in a hotel, the first thing you should do when you arrive is to make sure that your personal belongings are not placed on the bed, that would include your luggage and any clothes. Keep your stuff on a luggage rack or desk far away from the bed. Hang all your clothes in the closet, never in the dresser drawers. Next you should inspect in and all around the bed. I know you are already afraid to see the condition of the mattress knowing many people have slept on it but it is better to know than not to know. To make sure these bugs don’t become hitch hikers, shake all your stuff that has been exposed while you were in your sleeping quarters and when you arrive back to your home residence wash all your items in hot water or put them in dryer on high heat for about 20 minutes.
